TRWD FlyFest

February 6, 2016 General News No Comments

This year, as a part of an annual trout stocking, Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) is partnering with Fort Worth’s urban angling community to deliver TRWD Flyfest. The festival will be a family-friendly day of fly fishing, food, wine and craft beer in and along the rippling waters of the Clear Fork of the Trinity River. Whether you are an experienced angler or have never touched a fly rod, this fun day will have something to hook everyone in the whole family.

The festival will include presentations from top local anglers as well as the host of the Trout Unlimited TV show “On the Rise”, from Telluride Colorado, Frank Smethurst. They will cover a diverse range of topics including an introduction to fly fishing, fly fishing destinations, fishing on the Trinity and more. Fly tying lessons will be available throughout the day and will cover a wide array of types of flies from beginner friendly patterns to advance. Fly fishing experts will host numerous demonstrations including beginning casting, a women’s casting class and how to cast big flies. Three contests will also be held at TRWD Flyfest, one of which being the Big Trout Contest where anglers will compete to catch the biggest trout or the most fish in the time allotted to win the TRWD Flyfest Grand Prize.

Poaching is a growing problem, but it is one you can help prevent. Here in Texas, if you see anything suspicious, call Operation Game Theft.
Texans are also very known for going out of state to pursue other fishing and hunting expeditions, so who should you call if out of state? Then report any crimes against wildlife at:
There you will find a map which will link you to most fish and wildlife enforcement agencies in the U.S. or Canada. Reports can be confidential and you may receive a reward. Information you provide can lead to an arrest, fines, and possible jail time.

What should we be on the lookout for:
Hunting or fishing out of season or without a license
Night hunting
Hunting or fishing on private land without permission

Welcome to the Texas Council!! The Texas Council was formed this fall, as there was a strong desire to unify our state. Texas was divided with the Northern clubs belonging to the Southern Council and the rest of the state belonging to the Gulf Coast Council. A unified state will be beneficial in so many ways. On November the 26th, the Federation of Fly Fishers approved the formation of the Texas Council. The new Council has been off to an excellent start, with the help of so many wonderful, and talented volunteers. Without them, this dream would have never came true.

We hope you find this website to be of great value, and easy to use. Please provide any comments, suggestions, or activities you wish the council to partake in. We would greatly appreciate your support.
