Rio Grande Valley Fly Tiers Update

September 19, 2013 General News 1 Comment

We have enjoyed the rain these past couple of weeks. Unfortunately, it’s going to put a dent into our plans to have our first RGVFTC Fly Swap Tournament which was to be held this Saturday, September 21st.

The weather report this afternoon shows that tropical storm Manuel is strengthening and heading toward us. It is predicted that rain events will increase and that the storm will bring more rain on Friday and Saturday before heading back south. I’ve added the current video from the weather channel to better illustrate the predictions.

It looks like sun will be short lived this weekend. Sunday before a cold front send storms back south. Sunny skies and 12-15 mph winds may be a time to look for fish.

We’re hoping that we can try again in late October. The Laguna Madre Fly Fishing Association is hoping to have a beach trip on Saturday, October 12. Check out their plans on the LMFFA Facebook page.

Stay dry and enjoy any break in the weather you can.

North Toledo Bend Rendezvous Nov 1 -3 2013

September 11, 2013 General News No Comments

Welcome again to the North Toledo Bend Rendezvous! The date is Friday afternoon, November 1st thru Sunday morning, November 3rd, 2013. Rendezvous is the result of several fly fishermen gathering to fish and tie flies at the state park many years ago. After a couple of years of growing pains they found the park’s group facility. And what a facility indeed! A capacity of 150 people in 5 heated log bunkhouses (30 beds each), a heated central shower and restroom building with nice night lighting on all the sidewalks and a large main log building with A/C, a commercial kitchen, dining hall, fireplace, a long front porch, picnic table and a large barbeque trailer out front.

Read all about the Rendezvous here:

See you there,

WELCOME

Welcome to the Texas Council!! The Texas Council was formed this fall, as there was a strong desire to unify our state. Texas was divided with the Northern clubs belonging to the Southern Council and the rest of the state belonging to the Gulf Coast Council. A unified state will be beneficial in so many ways. On November the 26th, the Federation of Fly Fishers approved the formation of the Texas Council. The new Council has been off to an excellent start, with the help of so many wonderful, and talented volunteers. Without them, this dream would have never came true.

We hope you find this website to be of great value, and easy to use. Please provide any comments, suggestions, or activities you wish the council to partake in. We would greatly appreciate your support.

Sincerely,

Texas Council
